Shannon Dedrick- On October 31, Saturday at 11:23 a.m., Chrystina Lynn Mercer reported that her seven-month-old baby Shannon Dedrick was missing. Law enforcement agents spent 5-days searching in and around the rural Panhandle town of Chipley, Florida. In a surprising discovery, at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday night, Shannon Dedrick, missing baby found alive.
Sheriff’s deputies found the healthy infant hidden under a bed at the home of her babysitter, Susan Elizabeth Baker and the sitter’s husband James Arthur Baker. Shannon Dedrick was found in a box that had been shielded from view by other items placed in front of it.
Shannon was taken by law enforcement officials to Northwest Florida Community Hospital to be examined. She was reported to be healthy, and it appeared she had been fed during the five day ordeal.
Shannon Dedrick’s mother was arrested along with the sitter and the sitter’s husband. Authorities determined that Baker and Shannon’s mother plot the child’s disappearance. Because, Mercer delivered the baby to Baker’s home early Saturday morning and then called authorities ten hours later to report the child missing.
Shannon Dedrick missing baby found alive babysitter, Susan Baker is a half-sister of her father James Russell Dedrick Jr. She reportedly became very concerned about the baby’s welfare several months ago and wrote a letter to Florida Governor Charlie Crist, asking him to save the baby from her drug-abusing parents.
The Florida Department of Children and Families, who had made several previous visits to the home, launched an investigation in August but did not find legal grounds to remove the baby from the parents.
Authorities focused their investigation to the home of Susan Baker and they discovered that Baker was involved in a similar child abduction twenty years ago. She spent time in prison in 1987 for beating her husband’s child.
Susan Baker and her husband were also arrested in 2000 for the disappearance of his son three-year-old Paul Baker, who reportedly went missing while Susan Baker napped. The boy has never been located.
Charges are pending for Chrystina Lynn Mercer, Susan Baker and James Arthur Baker’s husband.

Thank God for the great work done by the Sherrif’s Department in finding baby Shannon and shame on the Dept of Social Services! You can tell by looking at this beautiful baby she is malnourished and she has learned her lesson well from her Caretakers! Look into her eyes: there is no life there! She has learned not to respond in any way — no emotion, no movement, indeed she doesn’t even appear to be breathing. Please take her out of the House of Horrors she has been subjected to while there is still time — God has a better Family in mind for her. As for all the Caretakers mentioned, may the same God have mercy on your souls — I personally feel you should rot in Hell!
