On the outside three dancing groups were busy taking turns in there meditative prayer performance as the customers busily passed back and forth the San Antonio Carniceria y Tortillera.
All this had taken place in Kansas City last Friday night. If you were in the metro area you would have noticed that almost every where the same scene was take place nightly. Every thing is set to culminate today, as it is the feast day for the Lady of Guadalupe.
Over the past week many reverend dance groups have made their appearance at various churches, homes and small stores wherever their presence is requested. They will lead the procession into churches where devotees follow saying the rosary.
Each group is identified by a different color outfit which usually includes bells and hollow bamboo that is sewn into their skirt. And don’t forget images of the precious lady of Guadalupe. In most occssions she is displayed on a sequin applique, but there is one group that has deviated from the normal this is the Danza San Judas Tadeo, they wear their image on scarves that are draped on the back of their members.
The devotion is very heart felt so much so that even the greatest of sceptic will feel uplifted after watching the performance.
You will not find the dancers doing the Parade and Fiesta they focus on something that is much deeper the saints and Virgin.
The preparation for food to be served for the event took as much as one week. The 200 pork pig who just last week was eating away at the garden leftovers is now carnitas.
There was even one man from a Northeast Neighbourhood that had built a little mechanical mountain made of paper Mache that turns. The contraption is used at St. Anthony’s church to rein act the appearance of our lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego.
