Nonito Donaire Jr. Beats Omar Narvaez via Unanimous Decision

Nonito Donaire Jr., the reigning WBO and WBC bantamweight champion, faces undefeated Omar Narvaez of Argentina on Saturday, October 22 (Sunday morning, Manila time) at the Madison Square Garden, New York. The “Filipino Flash” has beaten his Argentinian opponent “El Huracan” via unanimous decision.

The 28-year old Nonito Donaire Jr. has a record of 26 wins, 1 loss, and 18 knockouts. This is his second bout this year after knocking out Fernando Montiel in the second round of their February bout.

Omar Andres Narvaez of Cordoba Argentina, on the other hand, has a record of 35 wins, 0 loss, 2 draws, and 19 knockouts. He is the current WBO super flyweight champion and for the first time in his career will be fighting in North America.

The 36-year old Narvaez is 5-3 in height shorter by four inches against the “The Filipino Flash”. Furthermore, the Argentinian boxer is not a power puncher; however, he has gone the distance in his last five bouts.

Nonito Donaire Jr. is getting $725,000 guaranteed purse (excluding television rights royalties) for his title defense against Omar Narvaez this Sunday morning (Manila Time), October 23, 2011.

In an interview by ESPN, Nonito Donaire Jr. apologized to the crowd for lack of action during the bout because Omar Narvaez clammed up.

“I did my best. I was very frustrated. I’m sorry it didn’t come out the way we wanted. I wanted him to open up. He had his hands up. Now I know how Pacquiao felt with Clottey.” he said.
