Umaga Dead – December 4, 2009 was a sad day for the Fatu family and another lonely day for the wrestling fans and family. It is the death of the former WWE wrestler Edward Fatu commonly known as “Umaga” at the age of 36. It is reported, though has not been confirmed by the Fatu family that he was found by his wife seating in a chair in his Texas home with blood coming out from his nose, he was then rushed to a hospital in Houston Texas and was put in a life support to continue living. The life support was said removed Friday afternoon. It is believed that he had fallen asleep while watching television had a heart attack and never woke up.

Eddie Fatu which was born on March 23, 1973 was a Samoan-American professional wrestler. He was a member of the Anoa’i wrestling family. Fatu had trained to become a professional wrestler at the “ Wild Samoan Pro Wrestling Training Center” which was operated by his uncles, Afa and Sika. After completing his training in 1995, he started wrestling for Afa’s World Xtreme Wrestling. He was first known as Jamal during his first stint with WWE. He was repackaged with the ring name “ Umaga” in 2005 and went undefeated for many months on WWE’s Raw brand until 2006. He was also known by his many nicknames, including “The Samoan Bulldozer” and “The Samoan Savage”.

Umaga was released by WWE back in June 2009 after he had violated the WWE Wellness Policy and refused to attend rehabilitation services. His last known wrestling work was with Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair’s pro-wrestling tour in Australia.
WWE released the following statement on the death of Umaga: “WWE would like to express its deepest condolences to Mr Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing.”Mr Fatu was under contract with WWE at various time periods and most recently performed under the name Umaga. Mr Fatu’s contract was terminated on June 11, 2009.”

Eddie has a young family and a loving wife that really need everyone’s prayers and support at this time. A true tragedy that someone so young and with so much potential was taken from them. I hope they have the strength and support to get through this horrible ordeal. Surely Umaga will be missed by many.
