In the past years many porn shoots were stopped after many porn performers were infected by HIV. The years of fight finally ended for AIDS Healthcare Foundation after 9-1 vote.
As president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation Michael Weinstein said that is a great day for the performers and promotion of safer sex in American society.
“This is the first legislative body to take up the issue, and the near-unanimous support is very gratifying”, Michael Weinstein said.
It was a long a big fight for AIDS Healthcare Foundation, but things changed last year when Foundation gathered signatures and filed the request with voters signatures attached to the request for the special ballot.
Now, the porn industry in L.A. is obliged to use condoms and to pay a fee for surprise controls of inspection offices. The porn industry in L.A. is a multibillion-dollar industry and resisted AIDS Healthcare Foundation requests for years.
Council members supported AIDS Healthcare Foundation after they were convinced that the initiative would pass at the ballot box. That way they avoided a very expensive special election this June.
Councilman Paul Koretz thinks there is no doubt that the voters would see this as a common sense issue and pass it.
On the other side porn industry representatives were against the measure finding it unacceptable because they think “government is regulating what happens between consenting adults.”
Condom use in porn industry is not just about safety of the performs, it has some educational purposes also, by sending the message to audience that condoms can protect you.
