Brittney Bergeron was a victim of stabbing and frustrated murder by Beau and Monique Maestas.
On January 22, 2003, the trailer park near Casa Blanca Hotel and Casino in Mesquite was filled with the horrifying scream of Tammy Bergeron (The mother of Brittney Bergeron and her younger half sister Kristyanna Cowan) when she saw both of her daughters stabbed with a knife. The attack have killed the 3 year old Kristyanna Cowan while paralyzed 10 year old Brittney Bergeron from the waist down.

The authorities have identified Beau Maestas and Monique Maestas both teenage siblings of Tammy Bergeron as the attackers. It was said that the reason of the attack is that Tammy Bergeron’s boyfriend had sold them table salt instead of methamphetamine worth $125.
The stabbing attack in which a knife-wielding assailant severed her spinal cord rendering Brittney Bergeron to be paralyzed from waist down was only one of the many tragedies Brittney Bergeron has endured in her young life. Brittney has also mentioned that a cousin had repeatedly raped her. The allegation was left to the authorities for investigation.
A the age of 10, Brittney Bergeron’s parents (Tammy and Kevin Bergeron) have fought a bitter battle of her custody. Both parent won custody through numerous trials but were also forfeited due to drug abuse and drunk driving. It was in the summer of 2003 when Tammy Bergeron had won custody over Brittney and her younger half sister Kristyanna. They left California in August of 2003 and and soon settled in a trailer park behind the Casa Blanca hotel and casino in Mesquite.
The suspect Beau Maestas was sentenced to death penalty in Clark County District Court last August 22, 2006
