Some of the actresses are the best. It is about talent, but it is about an attitude also. Since Anne Hathaway got the role of a Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” she started to work on the role. As she explained in a on-set interview for LA Times she found the inspiration for the role in Hedy Lammar.
First she made a research. She read all she could find about the character, form comic books to movie books. After that she started to watch Hedy Lammar classics. This movie star was an inspiration to the authors, so she tried to see what impressed them that much.
Hedy Lammar is an native Austrian, later naturalized American beauty, a real star of a so called Golden Age of the Hollywood. She was the first woman ever who appeared naked on the movie, she was fatal and strong woman.
Ann Hathaway admitted that she studied carefully, to the smallest details like breathing.
“I know this sounds odd, but her breathing is extraordinary,” Hathaway said.
She noticed that Lamar had a strange breathing with long exhaling after deep inhaling and she started to practice that kind of breathing.
“I took probably five breaths during her one exhale. So I started working on my breathing a lot.” , she explained.
Of course she loves the costume and Hathaway does not think that some of the previous performances will influence her.
As she tried to explain, every performance is for itself , like the comics and description of the character in the comics is for itself. She thinks that Catwoman is influenced by the person who creates Gotham and that is why they are so different.
