American Idol David Cook Cancels Tour Dates

American rock singer-songwriter David Cook canceled shows earlier this week due to “personal family matters.”

The canceled shows were at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hamsphire, and at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut.

A note posted on Cook’s site saying, “we are cancelling (Monday’s and Tuesday’s) show to allow David time to deal with personal family matter. Please respect his privacy at this time. David would like everyone to rest assured tha we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed.”

Cooks spokesperson confirmed the cancellations and said that David went home to be with his family.

David,26,spoke openly during his “Idol” run about older brother Adam’s long battle with brain cancer, and spent time with his brother last week.

Cook’s site was filled with letters of support from fans, who told him that he and his family were in their thoughts and prayers, urging him to take as much time as he needs to deal with the situation.

Cook’s pretaped appearance on Wednesday night’s American Idol elimination show will not be affected by the cancellation, and he is expected to resume the tour on Thursday.
